Holsten Human Capital Development

Mission

To strengthen families by expanding their access to viable resources that promote self-sufficiency, wellness and stability. HHCD will cultivate partnerships that empower families to take active roles in rebuilding both their communities for improved quality of life. By addressing day-to-day needs for long-term residents and assisting residents in achieving their goals, HHCD encourages residents to realize their dreams while helping to build the general community in which the residents live.

community1We believe building a real community takes more than bricks and mortar. It requires a solid foundation where citizens can pursue a better quality of life. Holsten Human Capital Development (HHCD) was established with the mission to strengthen families by expanding their access to viable resources that promote self-sufficiency, wellness and stability. HHCD works to cultivate partnerships that empower families to take active roles in rebuilding both their lives and their communities for improved quality of life.

By addressing the day-to-day needs of our long-term rental residents, we encourage residents to realize their dreams while helping to build the general community in which they live. HHCD maintains an office at specific rental communities and assigns full-time resident services staff to assist residents. Currently, HHCD maintains an office at our Hilliard Towers Apartments, North Town Village, Parkside of Old Town and Whistler Crossing communities and provides support services to these residents in the following key areas:

Resident Services

After an initial assessment as part of our rental application process, referrals can be made for any family challenges including child care assistance, access to health care services and other programs. Participation in this program is strictly voluntary.

Workforce Development

constructionHHCD works to ensure residents in our communities have access to job opportunities. Often times, jobs created by the redevelopment itself are made available to both skilled and unskilled workers from within our communities. Even management-related jobs, often within our own corporation, become available.

Additionally, HHCD’s long-term relationship with the Cook County President’s Office of Employment and Training, and other regional agencies, identifies opportunities for our residents to receive training to enhance job skills.

Other employment assistance includes referrals for specific training, transportation concerns, and childcare needs identified as a barrier to employment. HHCD provides and facilitates workshops, seminars, forums and notices of employment/training opportunities to all residents, while encouraging residents to become engaged in opportunities for economic advancement.

Community Building

kidsHHCD often partners with area organizations and stakeholders to form a “Community Consortium” to address a wide range of opportunities such as promoting entrepreneurial endeavors, building small businesses and providing community input for potential retail development. The Consortium represents a cross section of agencies, businesses, and institutions that serve the area and have a common interest in the success of the community.

HHCD works to make sure the community is kept informed about events that directly affect them. Newsletters, flyers and handbooks are created to share information among residents and foster a sense of community.

Monthly and seasonal events, both social and informational, are often planned for our communities. We’ve learned that these events encourage interaction between the residents, both renters and homeowners alike, as they all are part of the community. After school and recreational programs are available to sustain the youth population of our communities. Programs include age and gender-specific mentoring groups, sports programs and camp programs.
